• Moxibustion - A Traditional Chinese Medicine Approach to Improve Qi Flow (3 Minutes Microlearning)
Not everything in this video is correct: moxa has been used as a home treatment since times immorial, and neither acupuncture nor moxibustion is "energy medicine", but overall, a nice video.

  • When I first heard about the life of moxibustionist Fukaya Isaburo, I immediately felt a deep connection. Isaburo died the same year that I was born, and he was completely dedicated to the craft of moxibustion.
I love moxa, but I have not dedicated my life to it: she has to share that first place with her younger, more slender sister, acupuncture.
However, I am honoured to have a friend who is an expert in moxibustion, and specifically Fukaya-ryu as well! Felip Caudet has written a beautiful book on one of the great masters of traditional medicine in the 20th century, and I am delighted to have received a copy.

  • Moxa is an important part of Acupuncture practice. Acupuncturists will often ask their patients to apply moxa at home between treatments. Rice grain moxa is just one of the many different types of moxa techniques. It is relatively easy to learn and can be applied in the home. This video was made to support acupuncturists in teaching their patients this simple technique. The location of 2 main points often used with rice grain are also included - Stomach 36 (ST36) and Spleen 6 (SP6).

  • he practice of traditional acupuncture involves more than the insertion of needles.
The Chinese word for acupuncture is zhenjiu (针灸). The first character ‘zhen’ means needle, the second character ‘jiu’ means moxibustion. Moxibustion is the burning of a herb called moxa (Chinese mugwort) to warm specific parts of the body, including acupuncture points.
▫ Other techniques such as cupping, guasha and tuina massage have also been used alongside acupuncture for thousands of years. During treatments, acupuncturists may make dietary recommendations or suggest specific exercises such as taijiquan and qigong.
▫ During winter our bodies can struggle with the cold on both an emotional and physical level. Warming techniques and the practice of Chinese medicine can help. Reach out to your local practitioner for ways acupuncture and Chinese medicine can support you.

"We found moderate-certainty evidence that moxibustion plus usual care probably reduces the chance of non-cephalic presentation at birth, but uncertain evidence about the need for ECV."
"Moderate-certainty evidence from one study shows that moxibustion plus usual care probably reduces the use of oxytocin before or during labour."
